› Global Warming: The footprint measurement
Measuring your ecological footprint is not a valuable method of discovering your impact on the world. It underestimates the impact of an entire population and can be very misleading. A better way to measure a population’s impact is to look at the resources consumed. In your area, this can be measured by power use. This can be used to compare adjacent towns and discover the true impact that the local population has on the environment. Contact your local power company for more information.
› Conflicts between man and animals: An overstated problem
Man and animals often compete for the same living space. The degradation of quality habitat is often a subject of many discussions. Town councils often use wetland development, endangered species, and loss of green space as excuses to reject building permits, which limits growth. The out of control green movement is limiting economic growth in towns. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, the better way to handle habitat issues is to designate space out of town to compensate for the loss of quality habitat. Consult your local planning department to see how many permits were rejected and jobs lost due to unnecessary environmental restrictions.
› The cost of green: Can we afford it?
The overall attitude is that profit should not come at the expense of the environment. In theory this sounds good but is not realistic or achievable. The Earth has abundant natural resources. As technology advances, we find cheaper and more efficient ways to accomplish our goals. The population has no impact on use. Conservation is an idea dreamt up by environmental alarmists. The Earth can sustain life and population growth because the demands change. As technology advances, we will find ways to stretch the resources and use them more efficiently. Technology and efficiency are rapidly changing; the environmentalists need to catch up! The real cost of environmental restrictions is lost wages and stunted economic growth.
